French President Francois Hollande says he plans to pull all of his country's 2,000 combat troops out of Afghanistan by the end of the year, but that France will continue to support the war-torn country.
During an unannounced visit to Afghanistan Friday, Hollande said some 1,300 other troops will remain in the country in a support role. They will be training Afghan security forces and looking after equipment.
The newly-elected French leader said the early withdrawal will be ...
LONDON - The Summer Olympics start in London in about two months, on July 27, and while interest has started to build a little, the city is not overflowing with excitement.
At Trafalgar Square, in the heart of the city, the official Olympic countdown clock gets a steady stream of people posing for pictures. But most of them are foreign tourists.
Many Londoners appear indifferent, worried or actually hostile toward the Games.
"I think it is a waste of ...
More than 3,000 Rwandan children die every year from diarrhea. But health officials say that’s about to change with the introduction of the rotavirus vaccine. Rwanda is the latest in a growing number of African countries to receive the vaccine.
It’s estimated that worldwide more than 1200 children die each day from rotavirus infection. Almost all of them are in developing countries.
“Rotavirus is the leading cause of diarrhea. In fact, in Africa, 40 percent of children who are ...
For about two decades, several species of fish commonly known as Asian carp have been swimming up the Mississippi River. The non-native fish, imported to help control algae in commercial fish farms, have been gobbling up food native fish need to survive. The U.S. government is spending millions to keep these invasive species from migrating through Chicago to the Great Lakes. And now the battle has spread north to Minnesota. However, critics say an all-out war on the Asian carp could be ...

Water Sports
Windsurfing & Kite Surfing
Aruba's constant trade winds have made the Island a very popular spot for windsurfers. Beginners to hard-core enthusiasts will find suitable locations for their skill levels from flat-water sailing to challenging wave conditions. Aruba is host to the annual Hi-Winds Windsurfing Pro-Am Grand Prix World Cup event in June.
Snorkel and Scuba
Snorkeling is usually done in shallow waters for the best view possible of hundreds of tropical fish which can be seen in Aruba. All you need is a diving mask, snorkel (breathing tube) and the ability to swim! Many people prefer flippers (fins) for added propulsion to cover longer distances more easily. Snorkeling trips, including boat rides to and from the site are available and snorkeling gear can be rented.
Aruba also has many Scuba Diving operators who offer scuba divers the opportunity to take advantage of Aruba's clear blue waters filled with an huge variety of coral and fish of infinite color and hues. If you have never experienced scuba diving before, you can take a Resort Certification Scuba Diving Course so that you don't miss out on the thrilling beauty of Aruba's underwater world. Visibility under favorable conditions is up to 90 feet and the water temperature is seldom below 78°F.
Off the northwest tip of the island, near Palm Beach, lies the hulk of the Antilla, a German ship that was scuttled at the beginning of World War II. It has become a favorite scuba spot and attracts many underwater photographers.
Especially recommended for scuba diving are the areas near Malmok, Spanish Lagoon and Commandeurs Baai where a popular diving instructor operates from.
Scuba is such a big attraction in Aruba that we have dedicated our Diving section to it.
And lots more!
